4G provider EE, a fresh venture by Everything Everywhere, officially launches

EE, the new mobile network operator in Britain, is set to launch its 4G services in 16 cities by Christmas, including major urban centres such as London, Birmingham, and Manchester. The company's ambitious plans aim to connect the country with superfast mobile speeds in the coming weeks, months, and years.

Olaf Swantee, CEO of EE, announced the launch of a new company, a new networking, and a new brand for Britain. Everything Everywhere, the company operating Orange and T-Mobile services, will transfer all 27 million customers to the new EE network within months. EE, the new company and brand, will offer 4G mobile and fibre broadband services.

EE's new infrastructure is designed with the belief that customers deserve better. The company has received permission from Ofcom to deliver 4G services on its 1800 MHz spectrum. EE will transfer 2x15MHz of its 1800MHz spectrum to mobile operator Three, as required by the European commission.

EE's 4G network is part of the Shared Rural Network (SRN) initiative aimed at expanding 4G mobile coverage to 95% of the UK landmass by the end of 2025. This includes improvements especially in rural areas, adding coverage to at least 280,000 premises and 16,000km of roads. EE leads the UK market with the most reliable and widespread 4G/5G mobile connectivity, and its 5G also leverages the same broad network infrastructure.

EE's 4G services support all common 4G-enabled devices, including smartphones from Apple, Samsung, Google, TCL, and many others, especially as EE expands into 5G standalone networks with these devices supported for enhanced 5G service. Supported handsets on EE include the Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE, HTC One XL, Huawei Ascend P1 LTE, Nokia's Lumia 820 and 920 handsets.

EE's fibre broadband is provided as part of BT Group and typically available across many urban and suburban areas of the UK, supporting speeds ranging generally from 36 Mbps up to 900 Mbps, depending on the plan and local fibre infrastructure. The fibre broadband service supports standard broadband devices: routers, modems, and Wi-Fi equipment compatible with fibre connections. Many EE broadband plans include a combined router/modem device that supports both fibre and Wi-Fi.

While specific city-level fibre coverage details weren't listed explicitly, EE broadly services major cities including London, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff, Bristol, and others as indicated by their top mobile network performance and awards in these locations. EE aims to reach two thirds of properties with fibre broadband services by the end of 2014. EE is launching a fixed-line fibre broadband service to homes and businesses, available to 11 properties by the end of the year.

Customers on the new EE network will experience faster 3G speeds, reaching up to 21Mbps, at no extra cost. EE's plans aim to revolutionize the UK communications market with faster networking and a new digital infrastructure. The company has trained more than 10,000 staff and plans to open over 700 branded stores in the UK.
