Acer Opens New Laptop Plant in India to Boost Local Production

Acer India has inaugurated a new laptop manufacturing facility in Kurumbapet, Puducherry. The plant, a result of Acer's collaboration with Plumage Solutions, aims to boost domestic production and reduce import dependence, aligning with India's vision for self-reliance in electronics manufacturing.

The new facility, established under the Government of India's Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) for IT Hardware, will have an annual production capacity of 300,000 laptop units. This move is part of Acer's localisation strategy to increase domestic production and reduce import dependence.

Harish Kohli, president and managing director of Acer India, expressed that the new facility underscores Acer's commitment to self-reliance in electronics manufacturing. Sudhir Goel, chief business officer at Acer India, added that the new facility will ensure faster go-to-market strategies and maintain quality excellence. Plumage will invest over $5.7m over the next few years to support this partnership with Acer.

The new Acer laptop manufacturing facility in Puducherry, opened in 2022, is expected to strengthen Acer's presence in the Indian market and contribute to the country's goal of becoming a global manufacturing hub for electronics news.
