Acer's Aspire Vero 16: A Sustainable Laptop with High Performance

Acer has unveiled its latest offering, the Aspire Vero 16, at CES 2025. This laptop, which emphasizes sustainable materials, promises to deliver both performance and eco-friendliness.

The Aspire Vero 16 boasts a 16-inch, 2560 x 1600-pixel display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and an optional touchscreen. It comes with an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor and 16GB of LPDDR5 memory, ensuring smooth and efficient performance.

One of the key features of the Aspire Vero 16 is its storage capacity. The laptop supports up to dual 2TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage, providing ample space for your files and applications.

In terms of design, the laptop looks sleek and feels nice to the touch. Acer claims that the Aspire Vero 16 is the world's first laptop to use oyster shells in its chassis. A biomaterial created from oyster shells harvested from the ocean outside Taiwan is used in the chassis, contributing to its eco-friendly credentials.

The use of oyster shells does not provide any advantages in terms of durability or thermals, but it is beneficial for sustainability. Acer asserts that the Aspire Vero 16 achieves better sustainability without compromising on performance or durability.

The Aspire Vero 16 also stands out in its commitment to recycling. 50% of its keycaps and power adapter are made from post-consumer recycled materials. Moreover, the laptop comes in 100% recycled packaging.

The Aspire Vero 16 is a 'carbon neutral' laptop, according to Acer. However, the neutrality is hard to quantify, with the company using high-quality carbon credits to achieve this.

The laptop is compatible with Wi-Fi 7 and has a Thunderbolt 4 port, USB 4 Type C, and HDMI 2.1. It offers up to 11 hours of battery life, making it a reliable companion for on-the-go use.

The Aspire Vero 16 will be released in North America this April, with a starting price of $749. With its blend of performance, sustainability, and affordability, the Aspire Vero 16 is poised to make a significant impact in the laptop market.
