Affordable Gems in the Audio Realm: Nothing Earbuds Buds 2 Plus - a Budget-Friendly Choice Worth Considering

Are you craving some new tunes to jam out to? Well, let's talk about CMF, a sub-brand of Nothing. They recently dropped three pairs of wireless earbuds on the market - the Buds 2a, Buds 2, and the Buds 2 Plus. You might be thinking, "isn't that a bit excessive?" But buckle up, because things are about to get interesting.

CMF by Nothing Buds 2 Plus

Want to know which pair of Buds 2 to get? You're in luck because I took one for the team and tried 'em all. The Buds 2 Plus is worth the splurge – trust me, your ears will thank you.

Pros

  • Strong bass
  • Affordable

Cons

  • No Fun Orange color
  • Can sound similar to the Buds 2 at times

But wait, let's back up. What's the deal with these wireless earbuds?

First up on the budget list, we've got the Buds 2a. They come in a dashing orange hue that the 2 Plus regrettably missed out on. Of course, with the lowest price tag comes the lowest specs (and price). The Buds 2a have 42 decibels of noise cancellation, a 12.4 mm Bio-fiber driver, and 5 hours of battery life with ANC on and 8 hours with ANC off. These bad boys retail at a super reasonable price of $49.

Then we have the middle child: the Buds 2. If you've been following along, you'll notice slightly elevated specs and, here's a twist, the exact same price as the Buds 2a. The Buds 2 have 48 decibels of noise cancellation, 11mm PMI drivers enhanced by Dirac Opteo's tuning, and 7.5 hours of battery life with ANC on and 13.5 hours with ANC off.

Finally, we arrive at the big kahuna – the Buds 2 Plus. These majestic earbuds have 50 decibels of adaptive noise cancellation (only slightly higher than the Buds 2 but with a 5400Hz frequency range, as opposed to the former's 5200Hz range), a 12 mm liquid crystal polymer driver, and 7.5 hours of ANC playback out of the case and 14 hours of non-ANC playback.

So, what's the difference between these earbuds? Let's find out.

I spent some quality time testing these trio of CMF wireless earbuds, and here's what I found. All three earbuds have their own sound, so let's dive in.

The Buds 2 Plus are of the crème de la crème in CMF by Nothing's Buds 2 lineup, with a price tag to match. But are they worth it? You bet. With a robust bass, good dynamic range, and an affordable price, these earbuds stand out from the crowd.

Next up, we have the Buds 2. Compared to the Buds 2 Plus, they deliver an equally good bass simulation, but they can get a little muddy. They’re decent, but if you’re after top-notch sound quality, the 2 Plus is the clear winner.

Finally, we come to the CMF Buds 2a. These earbuds are the budget option, and you’ll notice the biggest drop off in sound quality and ANC. They’re not a terrible choice if you’re after a low-cost solution, but for even a little more money, you can get the Buds 2, which offer a significantly better sound experience.

My advice? If you have a few extra bucks and are looking for the sound quality and ANC capabilities that justify the price, go with the Buds 2 Plus. You'll get the best listening experience for your money.
