In a significant move, Rheinmetall, the German defence and automotive technology company, has integrated the operational site of the insolvent Leichtwerk AG into its Rheinmetall Technical Publications GmbH subsidiary. The move, effective from July 1st, has seen around 40 former Leichtwerk AG employees join Rheinmetall's military projects.

The Brunswick location, renowned for its proximity to a research airport, is now set for further expansion. This strategic positioning offers a promising opportunity for new developments in drone and flight technology. The collaboration and special know-how of the new employees from Brunswick can be found at [www.braunschweiger-zeitung.de].

Rheinmetall's Luna NG reconnaissance drone, recognised as an advanced platform in the drone industry as of 2025[1], is one of the key projects being worked on at the Brunswick site. However, as of August 2025, no concrete details on the current testing status or operational deployment at the Brunswick research airport were found. Similarly, no information was available on the Rheinmetall Husar drone program’s development or testing at Brunswick.

Despite the lack of current test flights, the direct access to the research airport opens up the possibility for future testing and development. The exact timeline for such activities remains undetermined at this point.

Leichtwerk AG, despite ceasing operations, will continue as a civilian engineering service provider, signifying Rheinmetall's commitment to maintaining a diverse portfolio of projects. For those seeking detailed or classified program updates, these might not be available publicly and are typically restricted to official defense or governmental releases.
