Airtel Africa Reports Strong Growth in Customers and Revenue
Airtel Africa, the pan-African telecommunications company, has reported impressive growth in its customer base and revenue, driven by increased digital service adoption and a surge in data consumption. With over 163 million customers, the company's financial services arm, Airtel Money, saw a significant boost in users and revenue.
Airtel Africa's total customer base grew by 13.8% to 71.4 million, with average monthly data usage per customer rising to 6.9GB, a 32% increase from the previous year. This growth was fuelled by an expanding footprint, now covering Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, and nine other African countries. The number of Airtel Money users increased by 20% to 44.3 million, with revenue rising by 29.6%.
The company's net profit for the quarter ended June 2025 soared by 370% year-on-year to $250 million, driven by a 29.5% increase in data revenue on a constant-currency basis. This makes mobile Internet Airtel Africa's largest revenue stream. The increase in revenue was also bolstered by a 15% rise in average revenue per user (ARPU) for data and an 11.8% rise for mobile money.
Airtel Africa has declared a $0.04 per share dividend and remains on track for the planned IPO of Airtel Money by mid-2026. Despite a 7.3% drop in revenue in its largest market, Nigeria, due to currency volatility and regulatory changes, the company's overall performance demonstrates strong growth and a promising future in the African telecommunications sector.
