Apple's Vision Air: Lighter, More Affordable Spatial Computing for the Masses

Apple is set to launch Vision Air, a lighter and more affordable version of its Apple Vision Pro, aiming to bring spatial computing to the masses. Rumors suggest it will cost around $1,750, nearly half the price of the Apple Vision Pro.

Vision Air is Apple's bid to transform immersive media from a niche hobby into a mainstream experience. It is expected to weigh less than 500 grams, making it more comfortable for prolonged use. The device is rumored to use a magnesium alloy and plastic construction, reducing weight while maintaining durability.

To achieve this, Apple plans to use an A-series chip in Vision Air, creating a closer bond with the iPhone. This integration could accelerate the growth of the spatial video ecosystem. Apple aims to push spatial computing into everyday lives, competing with traditional imaging companies preparing lightweight alternatives in the market.

Vision Air is expected to improve upon the Apple Vision Pro, with a lighter design and a lower price. Apple's activities in spatial computing have so far focused on software and services like maps and augmented reality applications, unlike competitors like SpaceX, Blue Origin, OneWeb, Rocket Lab, and Amazon's Project Kuiper, which primarily focus on hardware.

Vision Air's success relies on reshaping the narrative around spatial technology to succeed where the Apple Vision Pro failed. With a rumored price of $1,750, it could make immersive media more accessible, potentially transforming the market.
