Asahi Hit by Cyberattack, Temporarily Shuts Japan Operations
Japanese beverage behemoth Asahi has experienced a cyberattack, leading to a system malfunction and temporary suspension of operations within Japan. The company has not verified any data breach, but the incident is causing substantial disruptions.
Asahi, which owns renowned brands like Peroni and Grolsch, has halted order and shipment operations, call center services, and some customer service desks due to the system malfunction. The incident is confined to Asahi's Japanese operations and has not affected its global subsidiaries.
This attack adds Asahi to a growing list of beverage companies targeted by hacking groups in recent years, with previous incidents reported in Russia, Germany, Belgium, and Sweden. Despite the recent increase in such attacks, Asahi has not identified or attributed the responsible cyber attackers.
With no projected timeline for recovery, Asahi's operations in Japan remain affected, impeding its ability to ship orders and manage customer inquiries. Given the company's substantial revenue - over $9 billion in the first half of 2025 - the incident could have significant financial implications. Asahi has not confirmed any leakage of personal information or customer data, but investigations are ongoing.
