Asians to receive an upgraded Tesla Model Y featuring extended range, a redesigned blinker lever, and a front-mounted camera, set for launch in the region.
Tesla's Refreshed Model Y Launches in Asia, but Production in Germany Remains Transitional
Tesla has officially launched the refreshed Model Y in Asia, with deliveries scheduled to begin in China in March, subject to regulatory approval. However, Tesla's German factory, Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, has not yet begun mass production of the refreshed Model Y as of July 2025.
The refreshed Model Y features a continuous light bar similar to the Cybertruck and Cybercab at the front and a unified band of lights and a Tesla logo at the rear. The previous blue colour for the Model Y has been replaced by a lighter, more metallic-looking paint.
The new Model Y is available in two variants: one with all-wheel drive and a larger battery, starting at 303,500 Renminbi (around 40,000 euros), and another with a smaller battery and rear-wheel drive, priced at 263,500 Renminbi (around 35,000 euros).
In China, the Launch Series of the new Model Y offers more range than before. Tesla has also introduced new seats in the Model Y, with extended rear seats and wider headrests. The Model Y has been modified to have a lower front trunk lid, giving it a more streamlined appearance.
The number of speakers in the new Model Y has increased to 16, and the turn signal lever has been reintroduced, after being missing since the refresh of Model S and Model X. The drag coefficient of the refreshed Model Y has slightly improved to 0.22.
The refreshed Model Y has already boosted sales in other European markets like Norway and Spain, where it is available and driving registration surges. Tesla also plans to release a cheaper Model Y version later in 2025 aiming to improve sales.
Despite the success of the refreshed Model Y in other regions, Tesla's German factory is still in a transitional phase, facing challenges including a steep 60% drop in sales in June 2025 partly attributed to production shifts and retooling for the refreshed Model Y.
The Model Y will be supplied from the Tesla Gigafactory in Grünheide, Germany, soon. Orders for the new Model Y in the special launch edition are possible on the Chinese website since Friday morning.
