Auto Manufacturer Chery Expands European Market with Third Internal Combustion Engine/Hybrid Brand

Chinese automaker group Chery is set to expand its reach, with its third brand, Jetour, making its way to Europe later this year. The move comes as part of a strategic plan to enter European markets by the third quarter of 2025, with full electric vehicle production slated to start by late 2025, and the launch of the first electric model, the T0, scheduled for 2026.

Jetour's growth in other regions, such as the Middle East, has been impressive. Sales in the region saw a fivefold increase year-on-year in Q1 2025, with significant market share gains in hybrid SUVs like the T2 model. This strong regional performance bodes well for the brand's optimistic expansion into Europe and upcoming electric vehicle launches.

President Ke Chuandeng predicts that Jetour's sales will hit 800,000 this year. He also expressed that it is not always realistic to import cars from China, suggesting that potential production sites in Europe could be on the horizon.

While exact sales targets for Europe in 2025 are not detailed, the positive outlook is supported by the tariff-free trade for battery-electric-vehicle products enjoyed by Chery's Omoda and Jaecoo brands in the European Union economic bloc. This advantage is not available to battery-electric vehicles from Chery's brands, but ICE and hybrid models are imported to Europe without punitive tariffs.

In Europe, Jetour SUVs will be offered in both internal-combustion-engine and plug-in hybrid versions. The brand manufactures a series of urban and off-road SUVs, priced between $10,000 and $50,000, as well as a pickup truck model.

Jetour's expansion into Europe follows in the footsteps of other Chinese brands like BYD, Xpeng, and Nio, who are also seeking less-intense markets for their products. As these brands make their mark, the European automotive landscape is set for a significant shift.
