I recently offloaded my launch Switch and Switch OLED consoles, and I'm feeling mighty fine about it - but let me give you a heads-up before you follow suit: sell it yourself rather than trading it in. Yeah, you might see a tempting trade-in offer that knocks a few bucks off the Switch 2 price tag, but don't get too excited. In most cases, you'd be better off selling your console on a platform like eBay.
Hear me out: trade-ins have always offered more modest rewards compared to proper sales, and that's not about to change any time soon. This is because trade-ins generally require less legwork from you—they're less hassle, as they say. But let's put some numbers to this:
CEX is the go-to trade-in service in the UK. Trade them a Switch OLED still nestled in its box, complete with all the goodies it came with, and they'll toss you a voucher worth £110 or £83 in cold, hard cash. I sold my dusty-but-pristine Switch OLED through an auction on eBay, and it fetched £145.54. If your console is without its original box, CEX would have maxed out at £82 for a voucher or £62 in cash, but I managed to snag £96.43 on eBay.
To sum it all up, kids: do a bit of homework before you bag those bucks. Compared to trading them in, selling your consoles for yourself will probably net you additional dough.
