Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm Begins Construction, Set to Power Polish Homes by 2027
The Baltica 2 offshore wind farm, set to power Polish homes, has kicked off its construction phase. The project, a joint venture between PGE and Ørsted, will feature 107 Siemens Gamesa turbines, each with a capacity of 14 MW. These turbines will be installed on monopiles, with the first batch ready for transportation by the end of 2025.
Van Oord, a Dutch company, is in charge of transporting and installing these monopiles. The first foundations have begun rolling out, with a total of 111 planned for the site, including 107 for the turbines and 4 for the offshore substation. These monopiles, up to 100 meters long and ranging in diameter from 7.5 to 10.5 meters, are primarily supplied by Steelwind Nordenham GmbH, with EWW also contributing 77 foundations.
The majority of secondary steel structures for the foundations are being manufactured in Poland by Baltic Industry Group and Smulders. The goal is to have the wind farm fully operational and delivering energy to Polish homes by the second quarter of 2027.
The Baltica 2 offshore wind farm is progressing steadily, with the first monopiles ready for transportation by the end of 2025. The project, a significant step towards Poland's renewable energy goals, is on track to start powering homes by 2027.
