BMW Designworks Presents 'Electric Energy Trees' at BMW Welt Exhibition
BMW Unveils High-Power Charging Park and Second-Generation Electric SUV
BMW has made significant strides in its electrification journey, announcing the operational High-Power Charging Park at BMW Welt in Munich and the launch of its second-generation electric SUV, the iX3.
The High-Power Charging Park, a pioneering initiative, boasts eight ultra-fast charging stations designed by BMW’s design studio, Designworks. These charging stations, known as "Ladebäume", offer up to 400 kW charging power and operate around the clock for visitors. The charging process is convenient and flexible, with payment options including credit card and smartphone via NFC.
Each charging station comes equipped with a bench for drivers to rest, and the stations are surrounded by colorful flowers, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. The road leading to the charging stations is made from concrete and terrazzo, and access is via "The Catwalk".
The iX3, part of BMW's reborn Neue Klasse lineup, is showcased at BMW Welt in Space Silver and Ocean Wave Blue. This electric SUV features cylindrical battery cells, offering a 20% higher energy density and 30% faster charging speeds. The 108.7-kWh battery pack delivers an impressive 500 miles (805 kilometers) of range under the WLTP cycle.
In addition to the iX3, BMW has plans for other models in the Neue Klasse lineup. The i3 sedan is expected to be released next year, and additional body styles for the i3, including an i3 Touring and a potential i4 in both coupe and convertible formats, are expected shortly. There are also rumors of a potential iX4 crossover-coupe.
BMW Welt's commitment to sustainability is evident in its use of natural stone from the nearby Isar River in its facilities. The benches and charging stations have the same coating as the facility's facade for seamless blending.
In the United States, a 40 xDrive version of the iX3 will be available starting in early 2027. This expansion marks BMW's continued commitment to electric vehicles in the US market.
With these developments, BMW is not only pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle technology but also creating a charging experience that is as seamless and enjoyable as the driving experience itself.
