BVG intends to persist with the deployment of bodycams, after a trial run yields positive results

The Berlin Public Transport Authority (BVG) is taking strides in enhancing safety and security within its operations. According to a tender, the organisation plans to rent at least 20 body cameras initially, with potential expansion up to 40 cameras for a minimum of three years. This move follows a successful pilot project that started in March 2024, during which BVG security personnel equipped with body cameras wore an armband with the inscription "Video Bodycams".

Since the inception of the pilot project, the cameras have been utilised over 18 times, not 400 as previously mentioned. In around 20 cases, the activation of the body cameras contributed to de-escalation, and no recording was needed. The BVG has confirmed the success of the pilot project, although specific details about the number of times body cameras have been activated since the start of the current project remain undisclosed.

The focus of the project is on the use of cameras in security services. The BVG is considering further deployment options to optimally integrate body cameras into their operations. The body cameras are currently used in vehicles, on premises, and at stations.

However, there are no recent public details available on the current status or future plans for body camera implementation in BVG operations. If you're interested in BVG’s security and monitoring technologies, it might require direct inquiry with BVG or reviewing dedicated transport security updates, as widespread information on this specific topic is not revealed in the recent transport or technology news sources.

On a separate note, it has been announced that the BVG's secret tip, BVG Muva, will no longer be available. The reason for the discontinuation has not been specified.

Lastly, construction work on the U5 line is set to begin, with more details available on A100 on 04.08.2025.
