ChatGPT Introduces Parental Controls for Teens' AI Interaction
ChatGPT has introduced parental controls to help manage teens' interaction with its AI. While there are no specific instructions for enabling these controls within ChatGPT, users can generally implement parental control measures using third-party apps or built-in device controls, such as Apple's Screen Time.
To activate ChatGPT's parental controls, start by clicking on the profile icon, then select Settings, followed by Parental controls. Here, you can choose to Add family member. Once added, these controls allow parents to adjust various settings, including setting quiet hours, filtering sensitive content, saving memory, and receiving alerts for potential distress or self-harm risks. Notably, these controls do not show detailed account activity, focusing more on supporting teens rather than spying on them.
To add a child, enter their email address or phone number, and their status. Then, click send to invite them. Once accepted, you can adjust the child's settings by selecting their name under Family members and toggling on or off the desired settings.
ChatGPT's parental controls, when used in conjunction with device-specific controls, provide a comprehensive way for parents to manage their teens' AI experience. By offering adjustable settings and alert systems, these controls help create a safer and more responsible environment for young users.
