The top three uses of ChatGPT are practical guidance, text creation, and information seeking. One in four conversations revolves around gathering information. Remarkably, by mid-2025, ChatGPT handled 18 billion messages per week from 700 million users, indicating its rapid growth and popularity.
Most users interact with ChatGPT for personal reasons, not work-related. In June 2025, 73% of all conversations were for non-work purposes. This trend was also evident in June 2024, with 53% of uses being personal. Interestingly, only 1.9% of conversations involve relationships, feelings, or personal reflections.
ChatGPT's user base has expanded significantly since its launch, with a notable shift in gender usage by mid-2025, where 52% of users had feminine names. Its primary uses remain practical guidance, text creation, and information seeking, with most interactions being personal in nature.
