Israel has made a significant leap in its defense capabilities with the successful completion of the development and testing phase of a revolutionary laser defense system, named Iron Beam. This ground-breaking technology, developed by Israeli defense companies Elbit Systems and Rafael, has the potential to redefine air defense systems worldwide.

The Iron Beam system, a ground-based laser air defense system, is capable of intercepting a wide range of threats, including missiles, mortars, aircraft, and drones, in various scenarios. This versatility makes it a valuable asset in the ever-evolving battlefield.

Prototypes of the tactical short-range Iron Beam lasers have already seen action in current wars, successfully intercepting dozens of threats. This real-world testing has proven the system's reliability over several weeks.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz described the development of the Iron Beam system as a 'historic milestone' for Israel's defense capabilities. He further stated that this successful completion is a 'decisive milestone' before the system is handed over to the army for operational use.

The Iron Beam system operates with high efficiency, offering a significant cost advantage over the multi-stage missile defense system currently used by Israel. The cost of neutralizing targets with the Iron Beam system is estimated at about four dollars per engagement, making it a financially viable solution for the country's defense needs.

The first systems are expected to be integrated into the Israeli air defense by the end of the year. This integration marks a significant step towards enhancing Israel's security, as the country becomes the first in the world to possess such a laser defense system.

In a statement, Katz warned potential enemies that Israel's defense capabilities are strong, and they are also strong in offense. He emphasized that they will do everything to protect the security of Israeli citizens.

The Iron Beam system's development and testing phase has been overseen by the Ministry of Defense in Israel, with Rafael and Elbit Systems playing key roles in its development. The successful completion of this phase marks a significant step towards ensuring the safety and security of the Israeli people.
