Top-Selling Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) in Europe for January 2025

The European electric vehicle market saw significant changes in January 2025, with the Skoda Enyaq taking the lead as the best-selling BEV, surpassing the Tesla Model Y which held the top spot for the first half of the year [1][2].

The Skoda Enyaq recorded 7,163 deliveries, marking a 47.7% year-on-year increase [1]. The Tesla Model Y, despite a 43.6% year-on-year decrease, still managed to secure the third spot with 6,473 sales [1].

Another notable performance came from the Volkswagen ID.7, which achieved a record 5,918 units in January 2025, a staggering 671.6% year-on-year increase [1].

Looking ahead, Kia is set to expand its plug-in lineup with the upcoming EV4, a hatchback or sedan primarily aimed at the European market, expected to launch in the second half of 2025 [1].

In the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) segment, the VW ID.4 came in second with 6,772 registrations, a jump of 198.1% year on year [1]. The Hyundai Tucson was the sixth best-selling PHEV, with 2,387 registrations, an 11.2% increase from January 2024 [1].

The European BEV market registered a total of 167,069 new vehicles in January 2025, marking a 36.6% year-on-year increase [1]. Germany was the largest market for both BEVs and PHEVs, accounting for 20.6% and 23% of the total respectively [1].

The UK was the second-largest market for both BEVs and PHEVs, with a gap of 4,874 units behind Germany for BEVs and 5,287 units for PHEVs [1]. However, PHEV registrations decreased by 4.3% compared to the previous year, totaling 76,377 deliveries [1].

Notable new electric models gaining traction in early 2025 included the Kia EV3, Renault 5, and Skoda Elroq, which entered the top ten for half-year sales but were not yet top in January [1]. The Renault 5 and Alpine A290 combined had 4,510 sales in January 2025, equating to a 2.7% market share [1].

In the PHEV segment, the BMW X5 was the ninth best-selling PHEV in Europe in January 2025, with 2,000 sales, a 7.7% year-on-year decrease [1]. The Cupra Formentor was the eighth best-selling PHEV, with 2,060 registrations, a 2.4% decline from one year ago [1]. The Mercedes-Benz GLC was the seventh best-selling PHEV, with 2,093 deliveries, a 35.1% drop compared to 12 months ago [1].

The Volvo EX30 was the ninth best-selling BEV in January 2025, with 4,357 units, a 93.5% improvement compared to 12 months ago [1]. The Dacia Spring was the seventh best-selling BEV in January 2025, with 4,819 registrations, a 38.7% increase compared to January 2024 [1].

The Skoda Kodiaq PHEV began deliveries in April 2024 and had 2,000 sales in January 2025, making up 2.6% of the market [1]. The Audi Q4 e-tron was the seventh best-selling BEV in January 2025, with 4,786 units, a decline of 4.2% year on year [1]. The Mercedes-Benz GLC was the seventh best-selling PHEV in Europe in January 2025, with 2,093 deliveries, a 35.1% drop compared to 12 months ago [1].
