"Currently accepting applications: Bonn-branded, free smart thermostat"
In an effort to promote energy efficiency and contribute to climate neutrality, the city of Bonn has announced the distribution of free smart thermostats for households. This initiative is a key component of the Bonn Climate Plan 2035, which was adopted by the city council in March 2023.
Starting from September 22, 2025, at 12:00 noon, eligible applicants can collect their smart thermostats at the NRW consumer center advisory center in Bonn, Thomas-Mann-Straße 2. To apply, residents can fill out a simple online form via the city's website (www.bonn.de/smarte-thermostate).
The distribution follows a lecture given at the beginning of the event, where attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the benefits of smart thermostats and how to use them effectively. Questions about the devices can be asked during the event.
The smart thermostats are designed to help households save energy, money, and greenhouse gases. By adjusting room temperatures automatically based on occupancy and outside temperatures, these devices can reduce heating costs by an average of six percent for every degree Celsius less room temperature.
This initiative is part of a socially just transformation towards climate neutrality, as the city administration, city works Bonn, consumer center NRW, and other committed institutions have joined forces to make this action possible.
Early registration is recommended due to the limited number of available thermostats. For more information about the Bonn Climate Plan, visit www.bonn.de/klimaplan.
