Customers of Rewe need to become aware of their own payment system updates.
Rewe, a leading supermarket chain, has introduced a new payment system called "Rewe Pay" on July 1st, 2025. This innovative system, integrated into the Rewe customer app, aims to provide a seamless, cashless, and cardless payment experience for customers.
To use the new Rewe Pay system, customers are required to have a Girocard linked to their bank account. This linkage and the mandate authorization are done within the Rewe app, ensuring a secure and efficient payment process. Customers need a smartphone or device capable of running the Rewe customer app, as the payment solution is integrated into the app itself.
Once the Girocard is linked within the app, users must agree to a standing direct debit mandate by providing their signature digitally. This authorization enables future payments without the need for repeated approvals, providing a convenient payment solution directly through the Rewe app interface.
With Rewe Pay, shoppers can pay via the app and authorize transactions with a simple digital signature. This system is similar to the payment systems offered by retailers Lidl and Kaufland. Customers will need to show a QR code to pay using the new system.
In addition to the payment benefits, customers can collect loyalty points and access exclusive price offers using the Rewe Pay system. It's important to note that the requirements for using Rewe Pay, including the need to register bank details and link them to the Rewe account, remain the same as previously stated.
Rewe is also experimenting with new payment methods such as cashierless shopping, self-checkout terminals, and modern computer vision systems in selected stores. These advancements are part of Rewe's ongoing commitment to providing customers with a seamless and convenient shopping experience.
