DHL turns Florstadt site into a European Pharma Hub, Investing billion Euros
DHL transforms Florstadt site into a primary European pharmaceutical distribution center - DHL turns Florstadt into a European center for pharmaceutical distribution.
Logistics powerhouse, DHL, is revamping its Florstadt site into a European pharmaceutical powerhouse. The latest addition, a fourth logistics center, boosts the DHL campus to a whopping 100,000 square meters of storage space, as revealed by the company. This European hotspot will house DHL's European logistics business for pharmaceuticals, according to Hendrik Venter, CEO of DHL Supply Chain for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, at the grand opening.
This sprawling site, occupying more than 14 football fields, will be home to over 140,000 pallet storage spaces for pharma and medical products. Over 600 employees will cater to international clients from biopharma, specialty pharma, medical technology, and clinical research.
Situated in a prime central European location and adjacent to Frankfurt Airport, Florstadt offers DHL a competitive edge. To seize the growing opportunities in pharma shipments as traditional mail services diminish and competition in the parcel sector escalates, DHL is investing billions into pharma logistics.
The Florstadt project is part of a two-billion-euro investment plan for strengthening DHL's global pharma logistics network by 2030. Although the exact amount allocated to the Florstadt expansion remains undisclosed, the new "Florstadt 4" warehouse spans 30,000 square meters, designed especially for sensitive temperature-controlled storage of pharma and medical products, offering various temperature zones, even reaching down to an icy -70°C. To further cater to the specialized needs of this sector, DHL offers on-site services like sample withdrawals, support for clinical studies, and handling of biopharmaceuticals.
