Differences Among All Electric Vehicles?
Lexus Unveils Electrified Vision at Auto Shanghai 2023
At the 10-day Auto Shanghai motor show, which ran from April 18, Takashi Watanabe, the new President of Lexus International, shared the brand's philosophy and approach to carmaking. This marked his first international motor show since taking the helm at Lexus.
Watanabe emphasized a focus on "Omotenashi," the Japanese spirit of hospitality, as the cornerstone of Lexus's carmaking. He highlighted the brand's commitment to creating vehicles that provide exceptional comfort, luxury, and attention to detail, aiming to offer a meticulously crafted experience that resonates deeply with customers' desires and needs.
In his goal to create cars that make people smile, Watanabe is advancing Lexus's unique designs and driving experience with electrification technologies. He aims to further enhance Lexus's unique driving feel and design through these technologies, while ensuring cars remain cherished and not turn into a commodity.
Two customized RZ concepts were showcased at the event, embodying Lexus's ambition in the era of full-scale, widespread BEV adoption. The RZ450e serves as the first concrete step towards realizing Watanabe's vision for a future with Lexus electrified vehicles. These vehicles are designed to enrich the diverse lifestyles of customers.
The Lexus LM, the company's flagship MPV model, also made its world premiere at the show. Akio Toyoda, Chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation, expressed satisfaction with the RZ car developed under Watanabe's leadership, stating "Now this is a Lexus."
Li Hui, Executive Vice President of Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd., spoke about the essence of Lexus during the press conference, reiterating the brand's dedication to blending advanced technology with traditional craftsmanship to deliver cars that foster a sense of kindness, refinement, and thoughtful care.
Generations of Lexus's craftspeople have remained dedicated to creating a sense of "comforting luxury." Watanabe's vision, as symbolized by the Lexus Electrified Sport Concept, represents a future where this commitment to quality and customer satisfaction continues to thrive in the era of electrification technology.
Watanabe's journey with Lexus began when Akio Toyoda offered him the job with the instruction to "create cars that make people smile." Since then, Watanabe has been involved in the development of several Lexus models, including the LC, UX300e, and RZ. Under his leadership, Lexus continues to strive for excellence and innovation in the rapidly shifting automotive landscape.
