Discord Data Breach: User Info Exposed via Third-Party Vendor
On September 20, 2025, Discord faced a data breach where hackers infiltrated user information through a third-party customer service provider. The breach mainly compromised contact details and some internal data, but messages and sensitive information remained secure.
The breach exposed users' real names and email addresses, including those using gmail, outlook email, and hotmail. A small group who shared government-issued IDs were also affected. Usernames, IP addresses, and limited billing information were accessed. Additionally, some internal Discord training material was compromised. However, messages shared between support and users were the only conversations affected; server chats and direct messages (DMs) remained untouched.
Discord swiftly responded by blocking the compromised third-party vendor from its ticketing system and involving law enforcement. The company reviewed its threat detection systems and safety protocols to prevent future incidents. Affected users received email notifications detailing the leaked information and next steps.
While the breach compromised some user data, Discord has assured users that full passwords, residential addresses, and other sensitive information remain secure. The company has taken immediate action to rectify the situation and prevent future incidents. Affected users should follow the guidelines provided in the email notifications.
