In a significant move, Apple has released the public betas for its upcoming operating systems - iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe (macOS 26), watchOS 26, and tvOS 26. These betas allow users to test the software before the final release, which is expected this fall of 2025.

The final release of these operating systems is anticipated this September or October, following the usual Apple yearly software update cycle. This comes at an exciting time, as it may coincide with the launch of the iPhone 17.

iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 will be available on recent compatible iPhones and iPads. iPadOS 26 introduces significant desktop-class features like window management and a Menu Bar, so it likely supports newer iPad Pro, Air, and standard iPad models from recent years.

macOS Tahoe (macOS 26) is available for Apple Silicon Macs that support this new version. Some Apple Silicon Macs without Rosetta 2 have already received the beta, indicating broad compatibility with Apple Silicon machines.

watchOS 26 and tvOS 26 public betas are also out, targeting compatible Apple Watch and Apple TV devices, respectively.

Here's a summary of the current status and devices supported:

| OS Version | Expected Final Release | Current Status | Devices Supported | |--------------|-----------------------|-------------------------|--------------------------------| | iOS 26 | Fall 2025 | Public beta released | Recent iPhones (likely iPhone 14 and later) | | iPadOS 26 | Fall 2025 | Public beta released | Recent iPads including iPad Pro, Air | | macOS Tahoe | Fall 2025 | Public beta released | Apple Silicon Macs (M1/M2 series) | | watchOS 26 | Fall 2025 | Public beta released | Recent Apple Watch models | | tvOS 26 | Fall 2025 | Public beta released | Apple TV 4K and HD models |

Since the software is still in beta, Apple strongly recommends backing up before installation and using secondary devices for testing. It is also advisable to avoid using the public betas if you rely on your device for important daily tasks.

In addition, Apple has also made the public betas of its Liquid Glass interface available. This interface, which was first introduced in iOS 25, promises a smoother and more responsive user experience.

To try out the public betas on Apple devices, one needs to sign up for the Apple Beta Software Programme. This programme is free to join.

Users testing the public betas of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe, watchOS 26, or tvOS 26 should prepare for a smoother and more responsive user experience with the Liquid Glass interface, which is also in public beta. smartphones and gadgets owners who rely on their devices for important daily tasks are advised to avoid using these betas.
