Drive-Through Scanner Debut at Port of Constanta by DP World: Innovative Move Boosts Efficiency

The Port of Constanța in Romania has received a significant boost with the inauguration of a drive-through cargo scanner by global logistics provider DP World. This advanced technology is set to streamline the import and transit process, improving overall trade efficiency and enhancing the port's competitiveness in the regional trade landscape.

The scanner, which uses state-of-the-art x-ray technology, eliminates the need for time-consuming manual checks, reducing truck inspection times from up to 5–7 hours down to just 2 minutes. Kris Adams, Executive Vice President of Eastern Europe at DP World, described the new scanner as a "game-changer for trade in Romania".

The implementation of the scanner at the Port of Constanța is part of DP World’s broader €130 million investment in Romania, including new terminal facilities. This investment is expected to stimulate trade and economic growth in the region.

By verifying that transported products match packing lists and comply with EU safety standards, the scanner also enhances security, improving trade security at the EU’s eastern border.

The scanner is used on all import and transit containers, facilitating more reliable and secure transit through the Port of Constanța. This will not only support the efficient movement of goods but also strengthen Romania’s position as a critical logistics hub in Central and Eastern Europe.

DP World's operations in Europe span multiple countries and offer a wide range of services, including the management of terminals and warehouses. In addition to the Port of Constanța, DP World has opened a new intermodal logistics hub in Aiud, one of several facilities the company has established in Romania.

The new facilities in Romania are part of DP World's efforts to improve trade efficiency and competitiveness in the region. The company operates in over 250 locations and spans 30 countries across Europe, employing more than 25,000 people.

The reduction of customs delays and bottlenecks enhances the reliability of supply chains connecting Romania to other parts of Europe and beyond. This improvement in supply chain resilience is a significant implication of the new scanner, as it allows late-day arrivals, which previously faced overnight delays, to be processed on the same day.

The high-tech scanner at the Port of Constanța marks a technological leap for the region, positioning it at the forefront of port technology and customs innovation. The dramatic reduction in inspection times, increased trade efficiency, and enhanced security offered by the scanner will undoubtedly contribute to Romania’s economic development and solidify the Port of Constanța's role as a key logistics hub in Europe.

  1. The drive-through cargo scanner, utilizing advanced x-ray technology, is set to revolutionize the trade industry in Romania by streamlining the import and transit process, aligning it with the broader finance sector's pursuit of increased efficiency.
  2. The investment in new terminal facilities, including the high-tech scanner at the Port of Constanța, falls under DP World's broader strategy in the general-news realm, aiming to stimulate technology-driven business growth and strengthen Romania's position as a critical logistics hub within the wider European economy.
