Dubai initiates battery-exchange points for electric bicycles at 36 different spots

In a significant move towards a greener future, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has announced a partnership with Terra Tech Ltd, a MENA-based B2B micro-mobility tech start-up. This collaboration aims to develop battery-swapping stations for electric delivery bikes, as part of RTA's plan to promote sustainable and eco-friendly transport in Dubai.

The battery-swapping stations will be located at 36 different strategic locations across Dubai. This infrastructure development is part of the strategy to meet the sector's operational needs and aligns with Dubai's readiness to adopt future technologies and operational practices that help reduce emissions.

Swiftmile, a company collaborating with the RTA, will play a crucial role in the development of these battery-swapping stations. Husam Al Zammar, CEO of Terra, expressed appreciation for RTA's confidence in Terra's solution for developing battery-swapping stations. Terra looks forward to working with RTA to empower the electric bike delivery ecosystem in Dubai.

The partnership also includes the development of an integrated system to support the delivery sector. This system is expected to streamline operations, reduce costs, and encourage more delivery companies to adopt eco-friendly solutions. According to RTA, the total cost of ownership for operators is expected to be reduced due to this initiative.

The initiative is expected to boost the delivery sector in Dubai's transition towards eco-friendly electric solutions. Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of RTA's Licensing Agency, encourages partners in the delivery and commercial sectors to utilize the initiative. The Commercial and Logistics Land Transport Strategy 2030 aims to reduce carbon emissions by 30%.

Angel Tesorero, Assistant Editor who writes on transport, labour migration, and environmental issues for the newsroom, reports that this collaboration is a significant step towards a more efficient and sustainable future for Dubai's delivery sector. The partnership invites partners to join forces and contribute to this mission.

As Dubai continues to embrace future technologies and operational practices, the collaboration between RTA and Terra Tech Ltd is set to play a pivotal role in shaping the city's eco-friendly delivery landscape.
