Dubai's Economy and Tourism Department Introduces an Accelerator Program in Partnership with Plug and Play, Aiming to Develop and Grow Local Startups
Dubai has taken a significant step towards achieving its economic diversification and digital transformation goals with the launch of a three-month accelerator program. The initiative, a collaboration between the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy, and global innovation leader Plug and Play, aims to embed high-potential ventures into Dubai's corporate innovation ecosystem.
The program, now open for applications, is designed to support Dubai's ambition to lead the next wave of economic transformation. It focuses on three key sectors: trade and logistics, connectivity and digital solutions, and fintech, which are central to Dubai's economic diversification and digital transformation goals as outlined in the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33.
Corporates participating in the initiative will have early access to emerging technologies and opportunities to co-create solutions with innovative startups. Startups, on the other hand, will gain direct access to leading corporates such as DHL, du, and Visa, along with mentorship, investor exposure, training, and market entry support.
Saeed Al Gergawi, Vice President of the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy, emphasized the program's role in connecting entrepreneurs with real commercial opportunities. Hadi Badri, CEO of the Dubai Economic Development Corporation, referred to the accelerator as a new chapter in Dubai's innovation journey.
Plug and Play CEO Saeed Amidi stated that the partnership would contribute to Dubai's goal of creating 30 unicorns and transitioning 400 SMEs into large businesses by 2033. This aligns with Dubai's goal, as outlined in the D33 Agenda, and the program aims to help Dubai achieve this target.
The accelerator program is a cornerstone of the D33 Agenda, further strengthening Dubai's position as a global hub for innovation and investment. It is expected to contribute significantly to Dubai's position and offer opportunities for startups to connect with real commercial opportunities.
Ambitious founders are encouraged to apply for the program. The inaugural cohort will begin in the coming months, marking a significant step forward in Dubai's journey towards economic diversification and digital transformation.
