Dusseldorf incident: Near miss for drone spectacle at Rhine-Kirche
In the heart of Cologne, the Sebastianer's festival grounds played host to a breathtaking spectacle on the evening of July 12th. Thousands of people gathered at the Lower Rhine embankment, the meadows by the Apollo, and the Rhine bridges, securing prime viewing spots for the highly anticipated event.
The main attraction was a dazzling drone light show, orchestrated by AO Multimedia & Drones. The show featured an impressive 1000 drones, reaching heights of up to 300 meters, widths of up to 150 meters, and depths of up to 80 meters, painting the sky with a kaleidoscope of colours.
The drone show was a culmination of a ten-year contract between AO Drones and the Sebastianers, and the event served as a significant step for the city, marking a new era in entertainment. The show began at 23:30, and despite the late hour, the crowd was spellbound.
The drone light show included 16 motifs, with the Ferris wheel and the carousel among them. The fair was a fitting motif, as the show was designed by Karina Hermsen. However, the exact cost of the show remains undisclosed, although industry estimates suggest it could range from tens of thousands to over a hundred thousand euros for such large events.
Interestingly, critics of the city's New Year's Eve fireworks have long demanded a central, environmentally friendly drone show as a replacement. This drone light show could potentially be a step towards fulfilling that demand.
Despite the lack of audible music for the show, the sight was already spectacular for the spectators on the Rhine fair and the Rhine bridges. As the show reached its climax, the drones returned to their base in a colourful display, signalling the end of an unforgettable evening.
With the success of this event, it is expected that many more will attend the show and the fireworks on Friday evening, July 18th. The city of Cologne continues to embrace innovative and sustainable entertainment, promising an exciting future for its residents and visitors alike.
At the drone light show, the Fair motif, a fitting representation of the Sebastianer's festival, was designed by Karina Hermsen, accompanied by a incredible display of 1000 drones using advanced technology. This spectacle, a collaboration between AO Drones and the Sebastianers, also showcased an array of gadgets, hinting at Cologne's shift towards eco-friendly and technologically advanced entertainment.
