Hey there! Let's dive into the record-breaking year for Berlin's beloved service provider, Dussmann. Championed for the iconic cultural department store downtown, Dussmann has clinched a stunning 8.4% economic growth from the previous year.

In 2024, the family-owned business raked in an impressive 3.3 billion euros – breaking their all-time revenue record, as proudly proclaimed by the chairperson of the supervisory board, Catherine von Fürstenberg-Dussmann.

Credit for this monstrous success goes to larger contracts in building management and technical facilities, complemented by improved overall profitability. Fun fact: entertainment essentials like books, games, and records only account for a minute fraction of their business. Banding together around 70,000 employees in 21 countries, Dussmann primarily generates revenue from services like building management, catering, healthcare, and technical services, which encompasses tasks ranging from cleaning to monitoring industrial and office buildings. These segments accounted for approximately two-thirds of last year's revenue.

Eager to boost the coffers further, Dussmann has set its sights on the construction of technical plants as a key growth driver. Last year, they acted as the head honcho for Germany's state-of-the-art data center equipment, scored projects from the pharmaceutical, retail, and logistics sectors, and now account for approximately one-fifth of total revenue. In the next couple of years, it's estimated this segment will account for nearly one-third of overall revenue.

Challenges abound in the field of care. Dussmann runs its own kindergartens and elderly care homes and, surprisingly, didn't expand the network last year. Despite the setback, revenues in this sector increased due to increased occupancy and higher care fees.

The Berlin cultural department store also achieved a new sales milestone, hauling in 45 million euros. Despite being just a fraction of the pie, it's their most famous location and won't be closing anytime soon – von Fürstenberg-Dussmann even went as far as stating, "Over my dead body" will it shutter its doors to become another department store.

Moving forward, Dussmann intends to emphasize sustainability and environmental protection in its operations through their Green Protocol, which reduces carbon emissions by 20% in cleaning activities. To stay competitive in a rapidly-evolving market, innovative technologies could become essential for tackling both technical plant construction and cleaning services while adapting to their client's ever-changing needs.

The family-owned business, Dussmann AG & Co. KGaA, plans to focus on the construction of technical plants as a significant drivers of future growth, having already accounted for approximately one-fifth of their total revenue in 2024. To ensure sustainability and competitiveness in the evolving market, they aim to incorporate innovation and technology in their building construction, cleaning services, and overall operations.
