Electric Skoda Superb iV: A Compelling Combination of Partial Electricity and Performance

It's time to strut in style with the updated Skoda Superb iV, their part-time electric luxury model. This baby now boasts an extended electric range, thanks to a larger battery, making it a compelling choice for company car drivers, commuters, and family men.

The Superb, a term Skoda proudly bestowed on its most significant model back in 1934, has withstood the test of time. The model's western flair was considered too luxurious for the factory's new Russian bosses in 1949. Volkswagen, the company's current owner, gave the green light for the manufacture of a more substantial mid-size car bearing the Skoda badge in 1991.

We're now on the sixth Superb iteration. Despite sharing significant genes with Volkswagen's Passat in the engine and interior, the Superb's classic Skoda character remains. Its charm, somewhat sneaky yet clever, is the secret ingredient that sets it apart.

Enter the new Superb generation, armed with technology straight from the Wolfsburg parent company, paving the way for an electric Skoda future. Despite successful electric vehicles already available from the Czech Republic, customers eagerly await the arrival of the SUV models Enyaq and Elroq. The Superb iV is not a "pure" electric car, rather a plug-in hybrid. Here, a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine teams up with an 85-kW electric motor.

Space and Savings Aplenty

The two engines combine to deliver 150 kW (204 PS). However, the battery's size matters most, now boasting 27.5 kWh – more than double that of the predecessor. The internal combustion engine can often be left untouched while driving more than 100 kilometers electrically, making it ideal for those commuting from their eco-friendly homes to offices and back during the workweek.

Cooperation with Volkswagen on the development of the new Superb has resulted in substantial financial savings. Not only is the Passat estate now only available in Europe, but its length has aligned with that of the Superb. In turn, the German number one company car benefits from a somewhat narrower Skoda due to production simplifications in their shared factory in Bratislava, Slovakia.

A Sedan that Stands Out, Inside and Out

The Superb's sleeker headlights and redesigned taillights give it an updated yet recognizable look. Inside, the gear lever has been replaced by a smaller control unit mounted on the right side of the steering wheel, increasing front area, and a 10.25-inch display showcases essential data. The central screen has also expanded to a generous 13 inches.

The Superb iV's additional intelligent assistance systems bring it to flagship level. These new features include curve and intersection assistants, front radar for emergency braking, intersection exit assist, and up to ten airbags, including a central airbag.

The driving experience in the Superb remains a touch of luxury. The familiar gear lever of previous models has been replaced with a compact control unit, requiring some getting used to, but ultimately offering more space in front.

In conclusion, the Skoda Superb iV presents itself as a modern, driver-focused sedan. With precise steering, excellent braking, and the smooth integration of its two engines, it delivers a notable performance. It's a worthy contender for those contemplating the allure of SUVs while yearning for the distinct charm of sedans. And if you don't forget to charge it, you can enjoy a climate-neutral ride in the new Superb.
