Enhanced Data Communication within the Domestic Far East through Advanced DWDM Multiplexing Solutions

Megafon Launches High-Speed Communication Line Connecting Khabarovsk and Komsomolsk-on-Amur

Megafon, a leading telecommunications provider in Russia, has launched a new communication line connecting Khabarovsk and Komsomolsk-on-Amur. This groundbreaking infrastructure project, powered by Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology, offers a data transmission speed of 100 Gb/s, marking a significant step forward in enhancing bandwidth for communication between these regional centers [1][3].

The complexity of the project lay in the heterogeneous structure of the cable route, which included different types of fibers that did not fit standard solutions. Megafon engineers, in collaboration with T8 specialists, calculated the parameters of the DWDM system to adapt the equipment to the conditions of the route and ensure high data transmission speeds [2].

For T8, a Russian manufacturer, this project is not just a challenge, but a direct request from the industry for relevant solutions that can ensure the stability and scalability of modern network infrastructure [2]. The DWDM equipment from T8 outperformed its foreign counterparts in several parameters, making it the ideal choice for this project [1].

The new line, spanning over 400 kilometers, uses Russian DWDM multiplexers and provides a data transmission speed of 100 Gbps. The technical solution for the line was chosen based on requirements for performance, scalability, and compatibility with existing infrastructure [4].

Routers installed on the line distribute signals to the appropriate channels, amplify them on long sections, and ensure fast and stable data transmission [4]. The DWDM system on the new line can be scaled up to 800 Gbps, providing ample room for future growth [4].

Andrey Kryshtofovich, Director of Transport Network Development at Megafon, stated that the new trunk line is part of their long-term strategy to develop the network in the Far East [5]. This is the first infrastructure project of this scale for Megafon using domestic equipment, underscoring an emphasis on technological independence by relying on domestic equipment rather than imported hardware [1].

The benefits of this project are threefold. Firstly, the high data transmission speed of 100 Gb/s improves bandwidth and service quality [1][3]. Secondly, the scalability and flexibility of DWDM technology allow growth by adding channels without new physical lines, supporting future growth and diverse data traffic needs [1]. Lastly, the use of domestic Russian equipment reduces reliance on foreign technology, enhancing security and supporting local technology development [1][2].

This new line is an important part of the trunk line connecting major nodes in the region, contributing to the robustness of Megafon's backbone network and the expansion of digital infrastructure in the Russian Far East.
