EU Mandates Public EV Charging Points by 2025

The EU is set to introduce new rules for electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. By January 1, 2025, owners and managers of retail outlets, sports arenas, and other public venues must install at least one charging point. Non-residential buildings with over 20 parking spaces and new commercial buildings with at least ten spaces also face these requirements.

CTEK, a leading EV charging solutions provider, advises planning for the long term. From 2025, the EU directive will mandate that one in five parking spaces must have infrastructure ready for future charging installations. By 2027, one in ten spaces must have charging points, and 50% of all spaces must be prepared for future installations.

These regulations aim to expand EV charging infrastructure, making it easier for drivers to charge their vehicles. The Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) targets publicly accessible locations, including grocery stores, shopping centers, sports arenas, leisure facilities, transport hubs, and event venues.

By January 1, 2025, various non-residential buildings and public venues in the EU must install EV charging infrastructure. Long-term planning is recommended to meet the increasing requirements by 2027. These changes support the growing demand for EVs and aim to make charging more accessible and convenient.
