Euro NCAP grants Polestar 4 a maximum 5-star safety assessment
Polestar 4 Secures Top Spot in Safety Rankings Among European Electric SUVs
The Polestar 4 has made a strong entrance into the European market, securing a 5-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) in July 2025 [1][3][4]. This electric SUV outperformed its competitors, including the Lynk & Co 02, OMODA 9, ZEEKR 7x, and MG P9 EV [1].
The Polestar 4's safety performance is impressive, with key highlights in adult and child occupant protection, as well as vulnerable road user safety. Adult occupant protection scored an impressive 92%, with maximum points in side barrier and side pole impact tests [1][4]. Child occupant protection received an 85% rating, with top marks in frontal offset and side barrier tests [1][4].
When it comes to protecting vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists, the Polestar 4 scored an 81%, demonstrating good head protection, pelvis, femur, knee, and tibia protection, and effective autonomous emergency braking (AEB) systems [1][2][3].
The Polestar 4's safety assist systems also performed well, earning a 79% rating [1][2][3][4]. These systems include effective lane assist, emergency lane keeping, collision mitigation with auto-brake, and forward collision warning, all operational from 5 km/h, as well as child presence detection [1][2][3][4].
Compared to other recent competitors, particularly the ZEEKR 7X, the Polestar 4 stands out due to its more comprehensive safety technologies and crash protection. The ZEEKR 7X scored slightly lower in vulnerable road user protection (78%) and had limitations like no full cyclist dooring prevention on all doors and lower motorcycle lane support [2].
In summary, the Polestar 4 offers state-of-the-art crash protection and advanced safety assist systems that exceed or meet the highest current standards in Europe. Its 5-star Euro NCAP rating reflects excellent scores across adult, child, and vulnerable road user categories, positioning it at the top tier among recent European electric SUVs. This makes the Polestar 4 one of the safest vehicle entrants in the 2025 European market.
This is the third Polestar vehicle to receive a 5-star rating from the European NCAP. The Polestar 4's overall score of 83% is its ranking in the NCAP's testing, and it was tested by the NCAP since 1997, which has been evaluating new vehicle entrants to the European market. The Polestar 4's safety rating indicates that it is one of the safest vehicles in its class.
