Eurovision Song Contest Equipped with PRG Technology: Insights into the Best Practices Deployed
The Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev made history this year by being the first event in Europe to use GroundControl Long Throw, a lighting technology from PRG. This innovative system, designed to project light over long distances with precision and intensity, was utilised for the first time on this scale in a production.
The Eurovision Song Contest, one of the largest live and TV events, reached approximately 200 million viewers annually across Europe. The contest in Kiev used a total of 18 GroundControl systems, four of which were GroundControl Long Throw.
The light show at the event was designed by Jerry Applet, who also used the GroundControl Long Throw technology during the contest in conjunction with the bright! system. PRG, a leading provider of entertainment and event technology, was an exhibitor at Prolight + Sound 2017. At the event, visitors could see the PRG LEA stage, which was used by Applet during the Eurovision Song Contest, in a backstage tour at the PRG XL Video fair stand.
Another highlight at Prolight + Sound 2017 was the ball ballet by Stage Kinetik, which used the BlackTrax live tracking system for interaction of the artist with stage kinetics and media content.
The setup for the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev took an impressive four and a half weeks, while tearing it down only took seven days. Approximately 200 trucks deposited equipment in the arena for the contest.
In addition to the GroundControl Long Throw, the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev also utilised PRG's Bad Boy systems. The GLP JDC1 LED hybrid stroboscope was another technology from PRG that was used in the contest.
