Expanded Availability: Six Additional Romanian Counties Now Offer Electronic ID Cards

Heads up, folks! 🚨 The new, slick Electronic Identity Card is rolling out in more parts of Romania! 🇷🇴

Starting tomorrow, May 8, 2025, citizens aged 14 and above in the municipalities of Brasov, Constanta, Iasi, Oradea, Ploiesti, and Timisoara can grab their hands on this advanced ID document. The announcement was made by Romania's Ministry of Internal Affairs on May 7, via a press release on Facebook.

To get your paws on the new card, you'll need to make an online appointment via the MAI Services HUB portal. This is the same process that's been in place for folks in other regions, such as Cluj County and Bucharest.

More than 5,500 individuals from Cluj County and Bucharest have already applied for the new electronic identity card, with half of them already having received their sleek new documents!

Don't worry about the expiration date of your current ID document. Romanian citizens can request the issuance of an electronic identity card regardless of its validity period.

The first Electronic Identity Card is issued free of charge to Romanian citizens starting from the age of 14, funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

The new card is a pocket-friendly, bank card-sized marvel with top-notch security features that protect against forgery and identity theft. It can also function as a travel document and provide seamless access to electronic services, along with the capability for electronic signature.
