Expansion of JTI's Global IT Center in Romania

JTI, a leading tobacco company, has announced the expansion of its IT hub in Romania, a move that underscores the country's strategic importance in supporting the company's global operations.

The IT hub, located in Bucharest, offers a wide range of services essential for JTI's operations. These services include business technology solutions, data analysis, artificial intelligence (AI and GenAI), software engineering, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and operations.

The hub plays a pivotal role in supporting JTI's 36 factories worldwide, eight research and development centers, and key business functions such as sales, marketing, finance, and people & culture. This central support system enables JTI to maintain its position as one of the world's largest producers of tobacco products, with operations spanning over 130 countries.

Global Reach and Employment Growth

The expansion of the IT hub has led to increased employment in Romania, with the workforce growing from 140 to 170 employees by mid-2025, and projections to exceed 200 by the end of the year. This growth indicates the strategic importance of Romania as a talent hub for JTI.

JTI has invested over €300 million in Romania, highlighting the country's significance in the company's overall strategy. This investment underscores Romania's role not only as a production center but also as a key technology hub.

A Center of Excellence

The production unit in Romania is globally recognized within the JTI group as a center of excellence, exporting to approximately 70 countries. The IT hub in Bucharest supports 36 factories worldwide, eight R&D centers, sales, marketing, finance, people & culture, and various other business-critical functions.

Milena Rajic, People & Culture Director of JTI Romania, Moldova, and Bulgaria, emphasized that the Top Employer recognition reflects the company's work environment. JTI achieved an excellent score of 96% overall in the Top Employer Institute assessment, obtaining 100% in terms of leadership and employee management practices.

JTI was one of the first multinational companies to be established locally, in 1993. In 2025, JTI was certified as a Top Employer in Romania for the twelfth consecutive year, ranking third out of 44 locally certified companies.

Constantin Alexa, Microsoft Delivery Center Director at JTI Romania, stated that technology is part of JTI's DNA and that the Digital & IT team is at the center of JTI's transformation, redefining the way they work and build the future.

A Wide Range of Products

JTI offers a wide range of products locally, including those with reduced risk potential, such as Ploom, a global brand in the heated tobacco category.

Milena Rajic invited future colleagues to join JTI and become part of the company's story, encouraging personal growth and development. JTI has over 1,500 employees in Romania, including at its Bucharest headquarters, the technology center, and over 30 sales offices throughout the country.

The IT hub in Bucharest currently employs 170 people and is expected to exceed 200 by the end of 2025, demonstrating JTI's commitment to leveraging technology to drive business growth and its faith in Romania as a strategic location for its operations.
