Federal Employees Under Musk's Guidance: Report Your Accomplishments or Step Down

The tussle between the Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk, and federal employees has taken a turn for the worse. Musk has issued a stern ultimatum: either demonstrate your progress or resign.

As per Musk's statement on his preferred platform, all federal personnel will soon receive an email inquiring about their weekly accomplishments. Failure to reply will be considered a resignation.

This latest development represents another escalation in the ongoing confrontation. The opposition against Musk and his plans to cut government jobs and expenditures has been substantial. Several civil servants have resigned in protest, filed lawsuits, and discussed countermeasures in secret chats on platforms like Signal and Instagram, as reported by the New York Times. Interestingly, X started blocking Signal links, although the connection between the two events is uncertain.

Musk's push for government optimization has not been without previous repetition. In early April 2022, Musk posed the same question to former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, via text message, weeks before acquiring the company, now known as X, for $44 billion on April 25, 2022. Musk's subsequent announcement on X, stating that Agrawal had achieved nothing, led to his eventual termination.

Musk's approach with the Department of Government Efficiency seems to be influencing his past actions. He previously challenged former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, leading to Agrawal's resignation. This strategy of discussing progress or facing consequences is reminiscent of the events in Paris, where a group of federal employees secretly discussed their countermeasures against Musk's plans.
