Food service and hospitality companies gain broader operational support through Chowdeck's acquisition of Mira.
In a strategic move that positions Chowdeck as an end-to-end partner for food and hospitality businesses across Africa, the on-demand delivery platform has acquired Mira, a provider of modern point-of-sale (PoS) solutions for the food and hospitality industry.
Founded in October 2021 and backed by Y Combinator, Chowdeck offers logistics, inventory management, payment, and other operational tools for food and hospitality businesses in Africa. With the acquisition of Mira, Chowdeck significantly expands its capabilities from solely an on-demand food delivery platform to a comprehensive technology solutions provider.
Mira's all-in-one PoS platform is used by over 500 hospitality businesses for managing sales, inventory, kitchen performance, and customer engagement. The technology addresses critical pain points like inventory mismanagement, inconsistent supply chains, and operational inefficiencies that often reduce profitability in African food businesses.
The acquisition allows Chowdeck to leverage Mira’s product development expertise to create new technology solutions aimed at supporting business growth and improving customer experience. Chowdeck's CEO and co-founder, Femi Aluko, admires Mira’s work and is excited about the potential of their collaboration.
Before the acquisition, Chowdeck was already a leading on-demand delivery platform with over 1.5 million users, 20,000+ delivery riders, and operations across 11 major Nigerian cities. The addition of Mira’s PoS and management system enables Chowdeck to deepen its footprint into the core operations of food businesses rather than serving only as a delivery intermediary.
By integrating Mira’s solutions, Chowdeck aims to help businesses move from inventory chaos to growth clarity, minimize stockouts and waste by improving inventory management, enhance customer engagement and operational efficiency, and support hospitality businesses in meeting the rising consumer expectations for quality, speed, and convenience in food service.
Mira's software was designed with empathy for local realities to make running a business in Africa as seamless as anywhere else. This acquisition is a significant milestone in Chowdeck's mission to power Africa's commerce and convenience economy, as it recently expanded to Ghana, marking another step towards its goal.
With the acquisition of Mira, Chowdeck combines reliable logistics, smart technology, and strong merchant partnerships to power excellent experiences for consumers daily, offering them a platform to order meals, groceries, and everyday essentials with ease and convenience.
- Due to the acquisition of Mira, Chowdeck can now offer technology solutions beyond on-demand food delivery, venturing into the realm of finance as they work towards creating new tools that support business growth.
- With the integration of Mira's technology, Chowdeck aims to improve not only the customer experience in the food and hospitality industry but also the business operations, especially in areas like inventory management and operational efficiency, utilizing advancements in technology and finance.
