Ford Bids Farewell to Iconic Focus ST
Ford has bid farewell to the Focus ST, discontinuing its production on 26 September 2025 at the Saarlouis plant in Germany. The final model was a red Focus ST X estate.
The Focus ST's journey began in 2002 with the 'ST170', a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 173 hp and 196 Nm of torque. In 2005, the second generation introduced a unique five-cylinder turbocharged engine from Volvo, boosting speed to 241 km/h and sprinting 0-60 in 6.8 seconds.
In 2019, Ford offered the Focus ST with a diesel engine for the first time, producing 185 hp and up to 400 Nm of torque. The third generation (2012) returned to a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, now producing 250 hp and 360 Nm of torque. The final fifth generation featured a 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, outputting 280 hp and 420 Nm of torque.
Ford celebrated the Focus ST series in 2024 with the Edition special series, featuring a sharpened suspension but an unchanged engine. Despite its success, the diesel version was discontinued in 2021 due to decreasing demand in the post-diesel scandal era.
The Ford Focus ST, available until the end as a five-door hatchback and estate with manual and automatic transmission options, leaves behind a legacy of performance and innovation. Its discontinuation marks the end of an era for Ford's high-performance hatchback.
