Funded Nigerian Food Tech Company, Chowdeck, Secures $9 Million Investment, Catering to 1.5 Million Clients in 11 Urban Centers Nationwide
Chowdeck, a Nigerian food delivery platform, has announced a successful $9 million Series A funding round. The funding round was led by Novastar Ventures, with participation from Y Combinator, AAIC Investment, Rebel Fund, GFR Fund, Kaleo, HoaQ, and other investors.
Founded in October 2021, Chowdeck has grown its customer base to over 1.5 million customers, serving more than 20,000 riders in 11 cities across Nigeria and Ghana. The platform's homegrown approach, designed to meet the specific realities of the local market, has been a key factor in its growth.
Plans for Expansion and Development
With the new funding, Chowdeck plans to accelerate a quick-commerce strategy, launching 40 dark-store fulfillment hubs across Nigeria and Ghana by the end of 2025 and scaling to 500 hubs by the end of 2026. The company aims to open 2-3 new fulfillment locations each week during this period.
Chowdeck also plans to expand into more cities beyond its current footprint in Nigeria and Ghana. The startup is focused on reducing delivery times and cutting delivery fees by minimizing distances between fulfillment hubs and customers.
To enhance logistics and operational efficiency, Chowdeck acquired Mira, a point-of-sale provider, in June 2025. The company is also diversifying revenue streams by offering Chowpass, a subscription service launched in 2024, which provides perks like free delivery, reduced fees, and an ad-free experience.
Renewed Focus and Energy
Chowdeck expressed gratitude to its customers, riders, vendors, and team for their trust and support in driving this growth. The company declared, "It's now day 1," suggesting a renewed focus and energy for the next phase of its journey.
With its emphasis on local market expertise, profitable unit economics, and a measured, sustainable growth strategy, Chowdeck distinguishes itself from other capital-intensive and burn-heavy quick-commerce players. The company's vision has grown bigger than ever, signaling its ambition for continued expansion.
