German automaker Audi debuts the E5 Sportback in China, priced from $33,180, generating 10,153 initial orders within half an hour.
New Audi E5 Sportback Launched in China
The Audi E5 Sportback, a joint venture between Audi and SAIC Motor, has officially been launched in China with a starting price of RMB 235,900 ($33,180), the same as its pre-sales starting price.
The E5 Sportback is a mid-size sedan with a touring-style design, built on the Advanced Digitized Platform developed through Audi's collaboration with SAIC. It is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, but the current information does not provide new details about its motor options or acceleration times.
The E5 Sportback offers four trim levels, priced starting at RMB 235,900, RMB 269,900, RMB 269,900, and RMB 319,900 respectively.
The E5 Sportback's battery options include a 76.2-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, as well as 83.3-kWh and 100-kWh ternary lithium battery packs. The CLTC ranges for these battery options are 618 km, 623 km, 647 km, and 773 km respectively.

The E5 Sportback is equipped with advanced driver assistance technologies. It features a roof-mounted LiDAR and uses an End-to-end Big Model (EBM) driver assistance solution from Chinese startup Momenta.
The E5 Sportback also comes with an AI-powered virtual assistant that can be controlled via touch or voice.
The E5 Sportback is based on the concept vehicle E concept, which was debuted by Audi and SAIC on November 8, 2024. It is produced at the SAIC Audi Smart Manufacturing Base in Anting, China.
SAIC Audi announced that the E5 Sportback received 10,153 orders within the first 30 minutes after its launch. This follows the success of the Huawei-backed Stelato S9T wagon, which secured 5,000 orders within the first hour of its launch.
Notably, the dimensions of the E5 Sportback are similar to those of the Nio ET5 Touring, with measurements of 4,881 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, 1,479 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,950 mm.
The rear-wheel-drive variant of the E5 Sportback offers two motor options: 220 kW (295 hp) and 300 kW, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and 5 seconds respectively. The dual-motor variant of the E5 Sportback provides two options: 386 kW and 579 kW.
