Goodwill Launches Online Resale Platform GoodwillFinds to Boost Sustainability

Goodwill Industries International has launched a new online resale platform, GoodwillFinds, aiming to boost sustainability awareness and donations. The site, operating under license from Goodwill Industries International, is led by Matthew Kaness, former Modcloth CEO. Meanwhile, another resale platform, Poshmark, is set to be acquired by South Korean internet giant Naver for $1.2 billion.

GoodwillFinds is a collaboration between various Goodwill organizations, with net proceeds from sales going back to the region where the items were sourced. This initiative builds on the success of ShopGoodwill.com, created in 1999 by Goodwill of Orange County. The resale market is booming, with secondhand apparel alone projected to reach $80 billion in sales by 2026. However, the environmental impact of e-commerce in resale is still not fully understood.

ThredUp, a rival resale platform, has found its resale-as-a-service model more profitable than its retail business. As the resale market grows, so does the potential for platforms like GoodwillFinds to raise awareness of thrifting's sustainability benefits and increase donations to Goodwill regions.

GoodwillFinds, led by Matthew Kaness, is poised to accelerate Goodwill's mission and boost net donations. With the resale market's growth and increasing consumer awareness of sustainability, this new platform could significantly contribute to Goodwill's cause. Meanwhile, Poshmark's acquisition by Naver for $1.2 billion underscores the resale market's attractiveness and potential for further growth.
