Google's 'Autofill' feature expands to encompass passwords and credit card info during web browsing on Gboard.
The latest Gboard beta is introducing a new and convenient feature: Autofill with Google. This feature allows for faster and more reliable filling of passwords and payment information without waiting for autofill suggestions or manually copying from the password manager.
To enable and use this feature, you'll first need to:
- Go to your device’s system settings, navigate to On-screen keyboard settings, and enable "Autofill with Google." This turns on the feature and adds an Autofill shortcut to Gboard.
- Once enabled, the Autofill shortcut—an icon shaped like a square with an asterisk/star and a small pencil on the corner—will appear in the Gboard shortcut grid and can be pinned to the suggestion strip for easy access.
- Open any app with text input and bring up Gboard. Tap the Autofill shortcut icon. It opens a small rectangular window with two options:
- Passwords: Shows saved login credentials specific to the app or website you are using.
- Payment methods: Shows saved credit or debit cards (you must enter the CVV/security code to use a card).
This integration works only with Google Password Manager and Google’s saved payment methods as of now. It is important to note that the latest Gboard beta (version 15.7.5 or newer) and Google Play Services version 25.30 or later are required for this feature.
The Autofill with Google feature within Gboard remains unchanged, with options for Passwords and Payment methods. When Gboard fails to load saved passwords or credit/debit cards, you'll have to open the Password Manager and manually copy/paste what you need.
This Gboard update does not include the integration with 'Pixel Sense' or voice 'Smart Edits.' Additionally, the original Emoji, GIF picker and the generation of stickers with Pixel Studio are not part of this update.
In conclusion, the Autofill with Google feature within Gboard is a convenient way to fill in passwords and payment information quickly and accurately. With this feature, you can save time and streamline your online experience.
