Google's latest update, Gemini, to recall user's previous conversations, introduces additional features

In a move aimed at enhancing user privacy, Google has rolled out a new feature for its Gemini AI chatbot: Temporary Chat. This feature allows users to engage in quick, one-off conversations that do not appear in the chat history or the Gemini Apps Activity, and importantly, won't be used to personalize the user’s experience or train Google’s AI models.

Temporary Chats are kept only for up to 72 hours to process responses and any feedback provided by the user. This mode is designed to address privacy concerns by providing a "clean slate" chat for private questions or ideas outside a user’s usual style or preferences.

To start a Temporary Chat, users simply need to select the "Temporary Chat" icon next to the "New Chat" option in the Gemini app. This feature is currently being gradually rolled out and is expected to be available to all users over the coming weeks from mid-August 2025. It is accessible to both free and paid Gemini users in select countries initially, with broader availability expected in the weeks following the launch.

Alongside the Temporary Chat feature, Google is also renaming the "Gemini Apps Activity" setting to "Keep Activity". This change gives users more control over whether their data helps improve Google services and AI models. Users who prefer not to have any data used for training can either disable this setting or use Temporary Chats.

In summary, the Temporary Chat feature offers quick, private conversations, while the updated "Keep Activity" setting allows users to manage their data sharing preferences. This approach strikes a balance between personalization and privacy, giving users greater transparency and control over their data while using Gemini AI.

  2. The deployment of the Temporary Chat feature in the Gemini AI chatbot is a strategy aimed at providing artificial-intelligence-driven privacy for users' one-off, private interactions.
