Germany sees a significant rise in AI adoption, with one out of every three businesses now integrating it. This is nearly double the number from a year ago. AI is viewed as the foremost future technology by 80% of companies, and 93% express a preference for a German AI service provider.

More than a third (37%) of companies in Germany are calling for a 10-year moratorium on AI regulation, expressing concerns about the potential high workload the AI Act may bring. A staggering 93% of the affected companies anticipate a significant workload due to the AI Act, with 49% expecting a very high workload and 44% an rather high workload.

The preference for AI providers is clear, with 93% of companies favouring German AI, followed by the USA, Japan, EU countries, France, Great Britain, South Korea, Israel, India, Ukraine, and China. However, the specific German AI company projected to make the highest investments in AI technology by 2026 remains unclear in the available search results. Major global tech and cloud firms like Oracle, Microsoft, and Amazon are leading large AI investments, while European investment highlights a French startup, Mistral AI, backed by Dutch semiconductor company ASML.

AI is increasingly being adopted by German businesses, with approximately one-third (36%) now using AI, up from 20% a year ago. The technology is predominantly used for customer contact (88%) and marketing and communication (57%). Interestingly, only 5% of all companies are actively hiring staff with AI skills.

Despite the potential workload and risks, 83% of companies view AI as an opportunity, up from 78% last year. This optimistic outlook is echoed by Dr. Ralf Wintergerst, President of Bitkom, who states that AI offers companies huge opportunities and that the greatest danger is to ignore AI and miss the AI train.

AI is considered the most important future technology by the majority (81%) of German companies, while only 17% consider it a hype. However, 56% of companies believe that the European AI Act creates more disadvantages than advantages for German companies.

On the topic of employment, the majority (67%) of German companies expect AI to have no impact on employment numbers. Despite this, 47% of companies are currently planning or discussing AI implementation, up from 37% last year.

In terms of AI investments, 29% of companies plan to increase their AI investments. However, 43% of companies do not offer any AI training programs for their employees.

Looking ahead, the AI & Quantum Summit by Bitkom will take place in Berlin on September 16 and 17, with over 1,800 participants and over 200 speakers. It's an exciting time for AI in Germany, with the potential for significant growth and development in the coming years.

One final note: an AI from Russia is not an option for any company, according to the data. This reflects the geopolitical landscape and the growing importance of data security and sovereignty in the AI era.
