Groundbreaking change as a new CEO steps in to elevate digital paper's future

In a significant move for the digital paper industry, reMarkable has announced the appointment of Philip Hess as its new CEO, effective from January 1, 2024. This decision concludes a global recruitment effort led by reMarkable's board of directors and its executive chairman, Magnus Haug Wanberg.

Hess, a seasoned executive with a 24-year tenure at Bose Corporation, brings a wealth of experience to the table. He served as the president and CEO of Bose, helping transform the company into new ventures, initiating its sustainability efforts, refining its brand, and achieving record revenue.

The choice of Hess as reMarkable's new CEO is not surprising given his affinity for the company's mission. Hess was drawn to reMarkable due to its impact on millions of customers and its focus on helping people focus in a world full of distractions.

reMarkable's products are designed to provide a paper-like reading experience in a digital format, aiming to help people focus and reduce distractions. The company faces competition in the digital paper space from products like the Amazon Kindle Scribe, Kobo Sage, Kobo Elipsa, Onyx Boox devices, Supernote, and Meebook.

Despite the competition, reMarkable is rapidly expanding into new markets, growing its presence in retail stores. The company's products are now available in-store at Best Buy in the US and in-store in Currys in the UK, as well as in other retail stores globally, including Virgin Megastores in the Middle East, JB HIFI in Australia, Elkjop across the Nordics, and Amazon.

Wanberg, who founded reMarkable and served as CEO for the past nine years, is confident that Hess's experience will help bring reMarkable's aspirations to life. However, there are no direct search results specifying which new markets reMarkable plans to expand into under its new leadership to strengthen its presence in retail chains in the coming years.

Michael Kozlowski, who has been writing about audiobooks, e-books, and e-readers for the past eighteen years, lives in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Kozlowski acknowledges reMarkable's rapid expansion and its position as a leading innovator in the paper tablet category.

As Hess takes over from the founder Magnus Wanberg and interim CEO, Vegard Veiteberg, he steps into big shoes. However, with his extensive experience and clear vision, he is poised to lead reMarkable into a new era of growth and innovation.
