Herford Police Crack Down on E-Vehicles After Bünde Accident

Herford police conducted a targeted inspection of electric micro-vehicles on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. The operation, led by the local police department, aimed to improve traffic safety following a serious e-scooter accident in Bünde the previous day.

On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, an e-scooter collision at the intersection of Hochstraße / Wollfeldstraße in Bünde resulted in three injuries. This incident highlighted the need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules involving electric micro-vehicles. The police in Herford are employing a combination of preventive and repressive measures to tackle this issue.

During the inspection, officers checked 100 vehicles and found 60 violations. Offenses included using unauthorized traffic areas, riding double, using bike lanes against traffic, using smartphones while operating the vehicles, children under 14 riding e-scooters, and violations of compulsory insurance laws. The police have warned that unexpected targeted inspections will continue to ensure safety on the roads.

The Herford police department has emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic rules when operating electric micro-vehicles.
