Honda Revives Classic Prelude as Hybrid-Electric Sports Coupe
Honda is reviving its classic Prelude sports coupe, 45 years after its debut, as an all-new hybrid-electric model. The carmaker is committed to equipping popular models like the Civic, Accord, and CR-V with hybrid powertrains, aligning with its ambitious electrification goals.
The Prelude is known for its innovative features such as four-wheel steering (4WS) and Active Torque Transfer System (ATTS). The new hybrid-electric Prelude will debut Honda's innovative S+ Shift drive mode and is set to hit the U.S. news market in late 2024. Honda has already sold over one million electrified vehicles in the U.S. since the launch of the Honda Insight in 1999.
Honda's electrification plans are ambitious. The company aims to introduce 30 new electric models globally by 2030, although specific models within the '0 Series' have not been detailed. By 2040, Honda plans for battery-electric and fuel-cell electric vehicles to account for 100% of its global vehicle sales. The ultimate goal is to achieve carbon neutrality for all products and corporate activities by 2050.
The hybrid-electric Prelude's return is a significant step towards Honda's electrification goals. With its innovative features and commitment to sustainability, the new Prelude is set to make a mark in the U.S. news market and beyond.
