Huawei's affiliate, Aito, submits documents for an M9 Sports Utility Vehicle launch
The Aito M9, a popular electric vehicle (EV) in China's luxury car market, is set to make its Indian debut around July 2025. The facelifted model, expected to cost approximately Rs 70 lakh, promises to bring enhanced styling, comfort, and safety features to the premium electric MPV segment.
The design of the facelifted M9 features aerodynamic alloy wheels and tweaked bumpers, aimed at improving aerodynamics and electric vehicle efficiency. Exterior highlights include projector LED headlights, eyebrow-shaped LED daytime running lights, electric sliding doors, 19-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels, and connected LED taillights.
Inside, the M9 facelift boasts a dual-tone black and tan dashboard with a layered design, along with features such as dual digital displays, a single-pane sunroof for front passengers, a panoramic sunroof for rear passengers, 3-zone automatic climate control, 64-colour ambient lighting, and powered and ventilated front and middle row seats with a massage function.
Safety and assistance features will include multiple airbags, a 360-degree surround view camera, front and rear parking sensors, and a Level-2 Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite.
While Indian-specific powertrain details are yet to be disclosed, the international version of the M9 is powered by a 90 kWh battery paired with a 244 PS electric motor on the front axle, delivering an estimated WLTP range of 430 km.
The Aito M9, a joint venture between Huawei and Seres Group, has been a success in China, topping the luxury car market for sales priced above RMB 500,000 yuan for the 10th consecutive month. The M9 has filed for one BEV and two EREV variants, and is included in the latest batch of models for public comment by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
The M9 has received over 200,000 orders in 11 months and is expected to rival the Li L9. Huawei's HIMA unit plans to double model offerings in 2025 with the Aito M8. The M9 is equipped with Li-ion ternary batteries from CATL across the lineup.
Apart from the M9, Aito's current available models include the M7 and M5. The M9 was initially launched with six-seat versions and has since expanded to seven variants, with a starting price range of RMB 469,800 to RMB 569,800. The M9 is manufactured at production bases in Jiangbei, Yubei, and Shapingba districts of Chongqing.
