Huawei's Cloud Computing Revolutionizes Automotive Audio

Huawei's Shanghai Acoustics R&D Centre is revolutionising automotive audio development with cloud computing. The centre, led by Chief Automotive Sound & Acoustics Advisor Lars Goller, is challenging European dominance in this field.

The centre uses cloud computing to process massive acoustic datasets, run simulations, and enable real-time audio processing. This is crucial for Huawei's independent sound-zone technology, which requires real-time calculation of wave interference patterns and digital signal processing (DSP) adjustments. The development process involves scientific measurement, artistic tuning, and specialised hardware, with three testing environments generating vast volumes of measurement data.

Huawei's investment in R&D is substantial, with spending in 2024 reaching CNY 179.7 billion (approximately £20 billion / €23.4 billion) and over 113,000 R&D employees. The company collaborates with automakers like BYD and Changan, using its cloud-computing solutions for vehicle technology development. Huawei has invested over 1 billion USD in its cloud-computing ambitions for the automotive sector.

Goller leads the development of the 'master-tuning method', which uses cloud computing to process variables for real-time adjustments based on vehicle speed and road conditions. Huawei supplies solutions to over twenty automakers, covering driver assistance, cockpit and control systems, and acoustics.
